Where the Light Endures — Holy Trinity Church, Buckfastleigh, Devon

Holy Trinity Church in Buckfastleigh, Devon, carries a story of both loss and endurance. In 1992, the church was devastated by fire in an arson attack, leaving much of this historic building in ruins.

On the evening I made this photograph, the low sunlight passed directly through the Celtic cross in the churchyard, creating a beautiful starburst and casting warm light across the gravestones and the remains of the church.

There was something particularly moving about seeing that light fall upon a place that has endured so much. The walls still stand, the cross remains, and the light still finds its way through.

Where the Light Endures is my attempt to capture that brief moment — a meeting of history, loss, resilience and light in the Devon landscape.
